USA School Garden Army.

He that is Neither One Thing nor the Other, has no Friends.

A GREAT conflict was about to come off between the Birds and the Beasts. When the two armies were collected and organized, the Bat hesitated which army to join.

The Birds that passed his perch said, "Come with us!" But the Bat said, "I am a Beast." Later on, some Beasts were passing underneath him looked up and said, "Come with us!" But the Bat said, "I am a Bird."

Luckily at the last moment peace was made and no battle took place. So the Bat came to the Birds and wished to join in the rejoicings, but they all turned against him and he had to fly away. He then went to the Beasts, but soon had to beat a retreat, or else they would have torn him to pieces.

"Ah," said the Bat, "I now see…He that is Neither One Thing nor the Other has no Friends!"

Almost 100 years ago in 1917 America went to war to help our allies as farmland was turned into battlefields and our European allies were facing starvation. In order to provide U.S. troops and allies with the sustenance required to maintain their strength and vitality, on August 10, 1917 the U.S. Food Administration was founded to manage the wartime supply, conservation, distribution and transportation of food.

This story has a great moral about hard work and planning for the future and is a perfect teaching moment for children and grandchildren…and even young adults!

Truly a great gift and educational excursion into the greatest generation of all…give it to friends, family, and of course, treat yourself to gardening history and its role in America's victory.
